The well-known LX8000 colour moving map and vario system first appeared on the market in 2008. It was the first nonstandard sized colour device installed in gliders. Since its first appearance in 2008, the LX8000 has gone through a number of changes and upgrades behind the sceen’s adding more power and functionality. In total, there have been four generations of LX8000 and these generation changes have also been applied to the other LXNAV moving map and vario systems such as the LX9000 and later, LX8080, LX9070 and LX9050.
LX8000 Generation 1 came on the market in 2008. It came as the first colour moving map display with integrated flight recorder, flarm module in combination with a digital vario called the USB-D. This early version of the LX8000 can be easily recognized with its very specific round push buttons top and bottom of the screen.
The second generation devices including the LX9000 which was first seen in 2010 and shortly afterwards, the LX8080. These devices had squared buttons (metal) and had a faster processor capable of displaying a 3D “synthetic view”. The second generation of the LX8000 arrived in 2012.
The third generation of LX80/90xx has an even faster processor which is needed to run the feature rich software including the support for a Wi-Fi Module. At this time, the LX9070 big screen version of the LX9000 was introduced along with the LX9050, slim version of the LX9000 to fit in slim panels such as the DG and LS gliders.
Generation four devices have the capability of the latest Flarm module called PowerFlarm, this latest HW with a very fast processor also has rubber proximity buttons and will be our platform for future developments.
Finally a vario navigation system with a Touch Screen Display! We were able to develop an instrument, which kept the same or ever higher brightness and has an integrated Touch Screen. Touch Screen is available on LX90xx series.
